For Kyle Percival, rallying has been part of life for as long as he can remember.

Growing up in a family deeply involved in the sport, Kyle spent countless weekends watching rally stages from the age of five. But it wasn't until his grandfather, Murray, bought a Ford Escort Mk2 at the beginning of 2022 that his own rally journey truly began.

At just 15 years old, Kyle climbed into the co-driver's seat alongside his grandfather, competing together throughout the North and South Islands.

"Sitting in the co-driver's seat, I always knew I wanted to be behind the wheel."

That opportunity came in 2024, when Murray handed Kyle the keys for Rally Waitomo.

It proved to be the start of something special.

In 2025, Kyle enjoyed an outstanding season, claiming four class victories and one second-place finish, winning his class in the North Island Rally Series, while also securing third in class in both the Northern Rally Sprint Series and the New Zealand Rally Championship.

So why Rally Taumarunui?

"I've never competed in a rally in the lower North Island, and it's a great way to support the Taumarunui community while bringing a different form of entertainment for everyone to enjoy."

Like many competitors, Kyle has already collected a few unforgettable rally memories.

"At Daybreaker Rally 2024, with Grandad Murray alongside me, we came around a corner to see a fully naked guy standing in the pouring rain holding a sign that read, '4WDs suck!'" 😄

For Rally Taumarunui, Kyle is looking forward to experiencing a completely new set of roads.

"I'm excited to discover what the lower North Island has to offer... and if I'm lucky, maybe even find a bit of snow on the stages!"

Away from the competition, Kyle is keen to meet the local community.

"Come and stop by the service park, grab a poster from me, ask me any questions you have, and take the opportunity to look over the other teams."
